From Desk to Driving Range - Mobility Tips for the Office Golfer

Office Golfer Mobility

After sitting in a single position for a number of hours day after day, and even year after year, our bodies may experience some undesirable changes in our physical qualities. Especially if you are not proactive in maintaining flexibility and mobility. Mobility is what allows your golf swing to move freely, generate speed and prevent injury or strain.

When we look at a golf swing, there are many twists and full range of motions being activated to hit that golf ball. The range of motion needed are in the hips, spine, back and shoulders, all of which are negatively impacted while sitting at a desk.

The main areas that tighten up while sitting at a desk for 8+ hours a day:

  • Hips

  • Lower back

  • Glutes

  • Shoulders

We Recommend a Daily Mobility Routine

Personalising your mobility routine is the fastest way to achieve your goals in a safe manner. Why? No two golfers are the same; age, past injuries and current range of motion can all effect what routine you should be doing.

Some golfers need more hip work, while others have tight shoulders limiting them. Don’t just use a generic routine you see online (If you are new to mobility routines, seek advice from a professional before you start).

The type of motility routines may include:

  1. Hip Extention & Rotation

  2. Spine Extention & Rotation

  3. Shoulder Rotation

  4. Ankle Rotation

When you’re Out Next

Take note during your next session on the course;

  • What feels tight or limited in motion?

  • Does it hurt during or after you play in any area?

These are clear signals from your body that something needs attention. Focus to how your hips, back, shoulders, and overall swing feels from the first tee to the final hole. Identifying these restrictions early allows you to tailor your mobility work more effectively, helping you move better, swing more freely, and enjoy the game with less discomfort.
