World Patient Safety Day 2025 (WPSD)
World Patient Safety Day 2025 (WPSD)
Wednesday, 17th September marks World Patient Safety Day. According to the WHO, this year’s theme is:
“Safe care for every newborn and every child”,
with the slogan:
“Patient safety from the start!”
This highlights the unique vulnerability of newborns and children to risks and harm caused by unsafe care.

Key Objectives of the Campaign
Raise awareness globally about safety risks in paediatric and newborn care, focusing on the needs of children, families, and caregivers.
Mobilise governments, health organisations, professional bodies, and civil society to adopt sustainable strategies for safer care as part of broader patient safety and quality initiatives.
Empower parents, caregivers, and children through education, awareness, and active participation in patient safety.
Advocate for stronger research on patient safety in paediatric and newborn care.
Connection with the World Health Campaign 2025
This year’s Patient Safety Day complements the World Health Campaign 2025 launched earlier this year, which focuses on maternal and newborn health.
World Health Campaign 2025 – Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures
The WHO has initiated a year-long campaign urging governments and the health community to:
End preventable maternal and newborn deaths.
Prioritise women’s long term health and well being.
