Movember began in 2003 as a way to spark conversations about prostate cancer and men’s physical health. Today, it has expanded into a global movement addressing prostate and testicular cancers alongside mental health, suicide prevention, and overall well-being.

Five things men should know and do when it comes to their health

According to the movember.com campaign website;

  1. Spend time with people who make you feel good - Prioritise relationships that bring you energy, support your well-being, and let you be yourself.

  2. Talk more - Open up. Share how you’re really doing. Vulnerability is not weakness.

  3. Know the numbers - Be aware of key health metrics (e.g. blood pressure, cholesterol, prostate health). Get regular checkups.

  4. Know thy nuts. Simple - Check your testicular health. Know what’s normal and act early if something changes.

  5. Move, more - Keep your body active. Exercise, walk, move regularly to support both mental and physical health.

Check Yourself: The Power of Early Detection

Routine checkups save lives. Men are statistically less likely to visit a GP or discuss health concerns, but prevention is always better than cure. Here’s what to keep in mind:

  • Know your numbers: Keep track of your blood pressure, cholesterol, and weight.

  • Check yourself: Get familiar with what’s normal for your testicles and see a doctor if something changes.

  • Get screened: Regular prostate checks are vital, especially for men over 50 (or earlier if there’s a family history).
